I am just wondering if anyone has any views about San Vicente as a place for a family home.
It seems to have a few good points:
It’s off the coast, and away from the expat urbs
Close to Alicante, so good for shops & services
Railway station
Good motorway access
Near to airport
University town, so quite vibrant
I’ve never actually visited San Vicente del Raspeig, just seen it in the distance when driving by.
A very Spanish experience, I would imagine. I think you would need conversational Spanish to get by, make friends, have a bit of a social life and not get too bored and lonely. Otherwise, could be lovely, especially if there is a reasonable choice of property at reasonable prices.
I also like the ‘feel’ of San Vicente, and it is as you describe it, with the added advantage (IMO) of predominantly flat terrain.
I also like the old towns nearby Villafranqueza and Sant Joan d’Alacant and may be worthwhile checking them out too.
Only negative I can think of, other than too many students (!), there is a lot of industry (eg aluminium works) and industrial parks surrounding the town, so not the most attractive place to drive into/out of.
Having said that, 15 minutes drive up the A7 heading towards Tibi and Castalla you could be in the Scottish Highlands, very picturesque!
If you are looking for something along those lines you may also want to check out the motorway that runs parallel to the road heading to the area of Tibi. The A31. There you will find the towns Rebolledo, Monforte del Cid, Novelda and even as far a field as Elda & Villena. Just before Monforte del Cid in the direction of Madrid is an 18 hole golf complex called Alenda. At this time there are some very reasonably priced homes there and a great mix of Spansh and English residents.
Apartments from 110.000 euros, townhouses from 165.000 euros and larger villas from 400.000 euros
