I am disappointed that the Desert Springs topic has been locked. Whilst I accept Mark is the owner of this web forum and can act in whatever way he wishes. I would have thought as a property journalist he would want to encourage debate not stifle it. I would have wished to reply to his last post on the thread.
I would like to make it clear that in my contribution to the Desert Springs thread I did not in any way make any criticism of the company which develops this resort or their probity. I have no knowledge of the Hitchins group of companies and I can accept Marks statement of their bona fides.
My argument is solely with time share as a concept which in my opinion is not any kind of decent consumer investment and generally leads to substantial financial loss. Simply saying ‘it’s not for everyone’ suggests it’s worthy of consideration as a concept. My view arrived at by intimate inside knowledge of that business in Spain is that it is not.
Time share has a long history of abuse in Spain by unscrupulous developers, dubious selling tactics and misleading financial information. I do not say the developers at Desert Springs behave in this way. However by dealing in time share properties they leave themselves open to critical questioning and examination by those who seek to expose malpractice in Spanish property development and offer insight into the workings of that market for the benefit of potential consumers.
Hi logan, yes sorry to see that discussion locked, I agree that Timeshare generally has a bad name in Spain and Worldwide, but I also do not like those self congratulatory awards like Bentley some agents/developers give themselves which are in fact paid for in the end.
Unfortunately your question as to ‘what the annual maintenance fees cost’ was unanswered.
So, in the words of Donald Rumsfeld ‘There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. These are things we don’t know we don’t know’ 😆
I think I ‘know this is one of those unknowns that we may never know until who knows?’ 🙄
Logan,I agree with everything you say about timeshare, and I would never promote it. However, DS are not offering timeshare, the are offering a fractional product, which is not the same. I don’t think you should smear a company as timeshare without first making the effort to understand what they are offering.
Angie, anyone interested in DS who wants to know the annual maintenance fees only has to ask the developer.
I’m locking this topic like the last one because otherwise this forum is used to smear companies that advertise at this website, even if they are the best in the business.
