Spain might not top every international ranking, but when you add it all up — affordable broadband, quality of life, transport, housing, and fun — it’s hard to beat.

If you’re a digital nomad, remote worker, or just someone who values quality of life, few things matter more than this trio: fast internet, easy travel, and a pleasant place to live. Spain, it turns out, scores surprisingly well across the board — and it’s starting to show.

According to Deutsche Bank’s Mapping the World’s Prices 2025, Spain is one of the cheapest countries in the developed world for broadband internet.

Broadband without the bill shock

In Figure 50 of the report, Spain ranks near the top for value, with high-speed home broadband (60Mbps or more, unlimited data) costing around €25 per month. That’s less than half the price in the US, and cheaper than most of Europe including Germany, Ireland, and the UK. Only a few Eastern European countries manage to offer lower prices, often with spottier coverage.

But in Spain, the combination of low cost and reliable fibre-optic networks makes it an ideal base for knowledge workers who can work from anywhere — provided the connection holds. And in Spain, it does.

International access: already world class

Add to that Spain’s air connectivity. As the second most visited country in the world, Spain has excellent international airports in Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Valencia, Alicante and Palma, with extensive routes to Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and beyond.

Whether you’re flying for business, family, or sunshine, getting in and out of Spain is remarkably easy, and often cheaper than from other European hubs.

Broadband, housing, transport, lifestyle… it all adds up

Over this series of articles, we’ve looked at how Spain compares internationally on housing costs, mortgage affordability, salaries, cost of living, transport, fun, and now broadband. The story is consistent:

  • Housing: Not the cheapest, but more affordable than London, Paris, or Zurich
  • Mortgages: Among the lowest fixed rates in the world
  • Salaries: Modest, but manageable when paired with lower costs
  • Cost of living: Mid-table globally, with good value in key areas like food and healthcare
  • Transport: Excellent public systems and modest fuel/taxi costs
  • Lifestyle: High quality of life, with Madrid rising in global rankings
  • Connectivity: Fast, cheap internet and easy international travel

The takeaway

Spain might not be number one in any single category — but when you look at the full picture, it’s hard to find a better all-rounder.

For digital nomads, location-independent professionals, retirees, and even young families seeking a better life/work balance, Spain offers an irresistible package of connectivity, comfort, and cost-effectiveness.

And as remote work becomes ever more normal, that combination will only become more powerful.
