    ‘José Manuel Barroso, the European Commission president, has become embroiled in a party funding scandal in Portugal, his home country, with members of the European parliament demanding he answer questions about the affair.

    They want to be told how much he knew about payments made by a construction group to his Social Democrats (PSD) shortly before he became prime minister in 2002 – and whether favours were rendered in return.

    This week the Portuguese state prosecutor said he would consider opening a criminal investigation into the case after fresh revelations in the media…………………………’

    ‘INDEPENDENT MEP Ashley Mote has been found guilty of 21 charges of benefit fraud – totalling £73,000 – at Portsmouth Crown Court. Mote, 71, a member of the European Parliament’s committee on budgetary control, used the cash to fund an “extravagant lifestyle”, which included Caribbean holidays, private health care and swish restaurant dinners……

    Ashley Mote MEP gone to jail today for 9 months, found guilty on 21 Counts of Fraud. We won’t be writing to him then ❗

    That equates to approximately 12 days in prison per fraud.

    We’ll see what his political standing will be when he comes out, but I for one am glad to see that he’s been caught & punished – whatever the ‘sentence’.

    I understand he defrauded Chichester County Council of £60,000. I wonder if he will repay taxpayers money. 👿

    He also remains an MEP because he was jailed for less than a year. 😯

    I believe he has been told that he has to pay the money back in full!
