It’s not all one way traffic as sometimes portrayed here, this article says foreigners including Russians are being frightened off Spain by asset checks, and the good weather is not everything 8)
so much misinformation on this subject it’s ridiculous – and all the crooked financial advisors jumping on the bandwagon exploiting the huddled masses !!!! any tax resident anywhere in Europe is subject to the same scrutiny as in Spain. The diffference here is that 90% of the full time residents in spain are still NON resident – AND they should remain like that in my opinion 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉
Maybe. But what if they are not filling in Spanish annual tax returns ? Is there a chance they could be hit with back tax charged . -if discovered it could be said ‘oh we only stay a few months a year’ but if it were proved by electricity consumption ‘oh no that was my daughter was here!’ But if proved by border control data on computer as well -could they then deem back to the day you bought the property – pay plus malta within 30 days. I would like to overstay but won’t take the risk. Are all these new rulings to be taken seriously ie that they have the apparatus and staffing do efficient checking of how long foreign residents are staying each year ? IF you are paying tax as resident in home country and no residente in Spain then surely better protected. How much liason is there between Hacienda and the Spanish border controls ie from flight lists too that the airlines have to provide that are fed into their computers so when you get off a plane in Spain now you often are not checked because they know who is on every plane ?
any tax resident anywhere in Europe is subject to the same scrutiny as in Spain.
Are you sure about that? As a UK resident I don’t have to declare my overseas assets (that I am aware of). My father is a UK resident with assets in Spain (overseas) and as far as I am aware is under no obligation to declare them to any government body in the UK.
I was looking at for first time that I have been thanked once but not thanked at all. Well I thanked Mark once in a post on here for the good facility but have not a clue how to use the thanking process ! But maybe nobody much appreciates my posting -should I stop ? Anyhow what I would like to say is that Spain is in a deep recession and the country is not doing much to endear the many property owners that are already there and the many who would like to join them ! Except that -whilst there is this property overhang and things are rough 1. Relax the 182 day limit to be No Residente so people come and spend more time and money -another 30 days or even 60 ! 2. Scrap these Inherirance Tax rules for people with Non Residente status so they pay the tax of their own country -CGT is pain and gain enough in normal times. Such action would cause a flood of inward investment. Yes write about it – to Rahoy to local Alcalde to local politicians even to La Rey ! Spain is shooting itself in the foot when it could be a welcoming open door !
Ptr, I couldn’t find the ‘thank’ icon at first, but there it was staring me in the face on the right, a small box with yellow thumbs up, so will thank you anyway for bringing this up. However, some other strange icons are now appearing on my posts, including facebook, twitter, and delete so I’m puzzled why I can see these on a post or two of mine but not on others’ posts 🙄
