Trying Times For Expats: Property Values Plummet While Living Costs Soar And Bank Transfers Waste Millions

Post Office Expat Payments Index reveals rise in living costs for expats abroad at almost four times the UK inflation rate.

Against a backdrop of falling property values and low confidence levels, the Post Office Expat Payments Index found that the cost of living abroad has risen by an average of 11 per cent since 2011 in destinations worldwide – rising closer to 15 per cent for those based in the eurozone. However, the report suggests that people transferring funds abroad via UK banks are collectively paying an unnecessary £217 million in transaction charges when these international payments can be made free of charge.

According to the Post Office report: Spain, Cyprus and Portugal were particularly hard hit with food and fuel prices named as the key issues.

Two-in-five expats living in Spain said the cost of eating out had risen over 15 per cent, while 71 per cent reported an increase of over 10 per cent year-on-year for fuel.

70 per cent of homeowners in Spain said that their property had fallen in value since 2011, two-in-five (21.4 per cent) suggesting falls of over 25 per cent.

Well said! If he is trying to kill the forum he is on the right track. Don’t know what is his agenda is but he has been banned from another forum. If Mark is not going to act then we should agree to ignore him.

      😆
Let him be a forum of one.

      Is that possible?

I have seen him around another forum too, it seems that Jake was just trying to counter balance the over optimistic postings about how well Spain is doing form an overly optimistic poster

To ignore may be the best way forward although some of his links may be relevant, many are not. The trouble is, his posts will just relegate our topics down the page which we will have to keep retrieving. Over to Mark then 🙄

I checked and see he posts or posted on another site under same name. 🙄

Ignore him, but he’s doing nothing wrong. Some of his posts are interesting and at least he is posting, this forum is rather quiet.

On other forums I have seen an “Ignore button” next to each poster, so if they get on your nerves you can click that and you won’t see their posts any more.

well no. Nothing wrong with what he is posting. But if Jakesuper is only willing to post links and copy and paste a bit of the text, without his own opinions/thoughts/etc…. Mark should give him a ‘warning’

I think it’s an automated poster machine probably sent by someone on the planet Zog.

I’m out of the office for a few days and only have my phone to moderate the forum. It will have to wait until next week.

And anyway, there will soon be new forum software that I hope will make it easier for each person to decide the content and posters they want to see.
