Hi, would anyone be able to advise the Spanish Inheritance Tax situation if someone owns an illegal property?

I’m guessing that the authorities will try to screw the whole amount out of someone while not recognising their “asset” as a legal one.
Or would the tax only apply to the value of the land (legal) and not the house?

      Thanks

Have a read of the problems being experienced by a lady who has “inherited” her late father’s house at http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=524611

It should not be surprising for the forum users by now to know that every which way you move in Spain, money is extracted with no sense of responsibility or legal obligation. Spaniards know how to circumvent the system and others get caught out.

Sadly, this doesn’t surprise me. I think my cynical side knew what the answer would be. 🙄 So thank you for the input guys. I’m sure that this is not the only example of such behaviour.

I would love to know what a lawyer’s take on this is though! 😥
