Requests for planning approvals in Q1 were just 10,191, down -27.6pc on the same time last year, according to data from the Ministry of Public Works.

Looking at March alone, there were just 2,619 requests for planning approval, down -40pc on February and -46pc compared to the same time last year.

The Spanish house building industry has all but disappeared. It’s been crushed.

If you need to refurbish a property in the UK or Sweden or Germany, now would be a good time to get a team from Spain to come over and do the work for you, living on a camper van onsite. You’ll get the best Spanish builders and architects very cheap.

Sadly enough our construction sector is already flooded by people from Poland and Bulgaria. Not that I mind it but it makes less room for spanish builders.

That is still 40,000 properties over the year. 40,000 TOO MANY

The Spanish government should be demolishing unoccupied and unwanted properties.
