We have been visiting Manilva regularly over the last 7 years and have always called into Sotogrande on the way home. We have watched the new apartments being built around the harbor area and now completed they look very well cared for but always seem to be unoccupied. When we were last over in December we noticed the bridge just around the corner from O’Flaherty’s had finally been completed. We walked across and were amazed to see a huge plaza with hundreds of empty units. But there was no sign of life anywhere.
Does any one know if there are going to be shops and restaurants eventually and if so a timescale, or is it going to remain empty??
The shopping plaza was bought off plan by an Irish investor (Blue Sotogrande) whose vision was a “high end” centre estilo Bond street meets Monte Carlo. It was due to open last year but from what i hear had still not managed to rent out one of the empty shells at Calle Serrano prices ; €100 m2 per month plus the investment of fitting out….
As Shakeel said, apart from high summer Sotogrande is a graveyard – manicured, posh, etc but dead….. Marbella might be gawdy but every major brand has now come into Puerto Banus concentrating more “glamour brands” per km2 in the world.
When, I made my last purchase in Spain. I had narrowed between Sotogrande & Marbella.
My Spanish friends told me that it dead out of the peak summer months, Its double the distance if not more from Malaga airport and they choice of restaurants etc is very limited.
Marbella won. Its a no brainer as far as I am concerned.
