Solar panels, do they work, has anyone had them fitted to their property and are they cost effective? We are in the middle of renovating our house in Mallorca and are thinking about solar panels for heating the water. Does anyone know if you have to have solar panels fitted to a new property or one that is being renovated?

Hi, we live in Petrer/Alicante and bought 3 years ago a new house. The solar panel with 150 liter water tank (for 2 persons) was installed by a local company 2 years ago and we don’t want to miss it anymore. Throughout spring to autumn we enjoy hot water exclusively from the solar panel.

At the moment we are having a new gas central heating system installed and the solar panel is connected to the system so any hot water that is produced during winter will help heating the water which goes to the taps.

It is a definite “YES, go for it” :-).

      Thanks Gudrun,

Did you find it cost effective and is it paying for it’s self? Which company did you go with?

      Hi Icarus,
      <div></div>
<div>sorry it took me so long to answer but we have been on a short holiday :-).</div>
      <div></div>
<div>I have now the invoice in front of me and saw it is a 200 liter tank from Saunier Duval, model Helioblock 250 (the French equivalent of Vaillante).</div>
      <div></div>
<div>We find it really cost effective and my husband thinks the initial cost of €2.137 will be amortized in +-7 years.</div>
      <div></div>
<div>Now you have even more food for thoughts ;-).</div>
      <div></div>
      <div>Good luck :-)</div>
