Hello,
I need to wire money from a US bank to a bank in Barcelona. The fees for doing so from the States are fixed $30. The fees for Caixabank (La Caixa) to receive this money – after their ridiculous exchange rate – are not fixed. It is .4% which I find excessive.
Do any of you know of a bank that has a fixed-fee for this type of transaction? Would I have better luck having a tantrum in the bank (a friend did this) to get them to lower the rate?
Or should I just pay the fees and move on?
Thanks.

if it’s a large amount of money then there are specialist forex companies that usually do better rates than high street banks.
Also try Citibank – they used to claim to be focused on international banking. They should still have branches in Barcelona – although they are in the process of pulling out of Spain.

Agree with Chopera. I would use HIFX or Baydonhill. You get a good rate & there are no charges either end. Dont let the Banks rip you off.

shakeel and Chopera: Thanks!
I’ll check out those companies and also Citi.
