It seems the scammers feel construction companies are having a hard time and maybe desperate for a quick buck or two (however illegal) and are hence a good target.
The following makes anything that can pack into a brown envelope look small fry!

A friend working for a property company here in Crete received an email from a Capt. Alan J. Davis (USA army) a few days ago who apparently had up to $1.2 million to spend on a property. Alarm bells of suspicion rang but nevertheless a few emails were then exchanged back and forth, my friend sending details of some land/houses.

      Today, this e-mail arrived:

      From: Capt. Allan J. Davis

      Sent: Wednesday, March 03, 2010 5:35 PM
      Subject: Plot C.PP14?

Thanks you for your mail and sorry for the late response I have been busy with things over here in Iraq.

Based on our earlier discussion regarding your property. I want to inform you that I will buy your property at your given price but I have a favour to ask of you.

As you already know, I am a captain with the United Nations troop in Iraq, on war against terrorism. Find attach copy of my picture in Iraq Based on the United States legislative and executive decision for withdrawing troops from Iraq come next year, I have been deployed to come and work in your country’s military base soonest. Our mission is to help beef up terrorist targeted states, mostly the United States and the European Union on the war against terrorism. I will need a house for myself and that is why I contacted you.

On the other hand I want to inform you that I have in my possession the sum of 5.2 Million USD which I got from crude oil deal here in Iraq. I deposited this money with a Red Cross agent informing him that we are making contact for the real owner of the money. It is under my power to approve whoever comes forth for this money.

I want to invest the money in your country as soon as I am deployed into your country for a good business, anyway you will advice me on that since I am not a business person. I cannot move this money to United States because I will be in your country for about 4 to 5years, so I need someone I could trust. If you accept, I will transfer the money to Spain, Switzerland, France, Germany, Greece, Dubai ( UAE ), Canada, Malaysia and Indonesia where you will be the beneficiary because I am a uniformed person and I cannot be parading such an amount so I need to present someone as the beneficiary.

I am an American Citizen and an intelligence officer for that I have a 100% authentic means of transferring the money through diplomatic courier service. I just need your acceptance and all is done..

Please if you are interested in this transaction I will give to you the complete details you need for us to carry out this transaction successfully. I decided to find someone that is real and not imaginary and that is why I want a secured House where I can be sure that the person is real. I believe I can trust you. Where we are now we can only communicate through our military communication facilities which are secured so nobody can monitor our emails, then I can explain in details to you. I will only reach you through email, because our calls might be monitored, I just have to be sure whom I am dealing with.

If you are interested please send me your personal mobile number so I can call you for further enquiries when I am out of our military network. I am writing from my email account so if you are not interested do not reply to this email and please delete this message, if no response after 3days I will then search for someone else.

I wait for your contact details so we can go on. In less than 5days the money should have been noted on your account and I will come over for my money. You will be rewarded handsomely after the payment of the property which is open for discussion. I propose to give you 20% of the money after completing the payment of the property with your guidance. I hope I am been fair on this deal. Get back to me with your full information:

      YOUR FULL NAME………

      YOUR FULL ADDRESS………………..

      YOUR DIRECT TELEPHONE NUMBER………

      BANK ACCOUNT DETAILS…………….

I have sent you an attached picture of myself. Please view the attached file.

      Regards,
      Capt. Alan.

……and yes, there was a photograph of an American soldier in uniform, sitting on a barrel surrounded by PILES of money!!

      This was the reply:

      Dear Captain Davis

I read your email with great interest and excitement and feel absolutely honoured to have gained your trust.
However we are concerned at involving the banks as they may ask questions.
So I would like to make the following suggestion: Put the cash in a crate and ship it to us by registered freight. Mark it for the attention of Stavros, Souvlaki Restaurant, Main Square, Kalives and I will personally collect the crate from the port with my cart and trusted donkey ‘Manolis’.

Please don’t worry about the crate’s safe arrival and customs. Giorgos, who is in charge of the port, is married to my brother’s uncle’s niece and is also a relative of my cousin’s Grandmother. He is my best friend, so safety is guaranteed. I will give Giorgos two bottles of Raki and a kilo of aubergines to “look the other way” and he will be more than happy. He loves to cook by the way and makes a beautiful Mousaka and his chocolate mousse is to die for. But, I digress.

Until your arrival I will hide the cash in a very safe place amongst my olive trees that only I will know about.
When you have completed your military duties and are able to come to Crete, I assure you your money will be waiting for you. As you say, you know you can trust me.

I will of course look forward to meeting you at the airport in my shiny new Mercedes when we will be able to share a glass of Raki together and celebrate our good fortune. Your offer of 20% is most generous and I am already celebrating as I write.
And who said “there is no God”?!
      Yassas!!

      Regards

I wonder if the ‘Captain’ has tried Spain?? Inez, Fuengi and Jim – watch out!! 😆

      😆 Kalimera Charlie brilliant post.

OMG I could do with a large measure of Raki right about now.

I am trying to work out why I moved and sold my lovely house in Cyprus to “share” myself between UK and Spain. The Cypriot Zivania is almost (but not quite) as good as the Raki!! 😉

Charlie your friend wrote a great reply!

We received an email from the Captain a few months ago. Different content though. was looking to buy a property in our area for 1.2 million USD.

I am looking for luxurious house with a private garden swimming pool(
Not Necessary) terraces and magnificent view, 3 to 4 bedroom. Strictly
residential, for me and my family.

My budget is from $800,000,00 to $1,2000,000,00. (Between Eight
Hundred Thousand to One Million Two Hundred United Sates Dollars.)

I will need to see the prices of the houses you have and the design.
The proximity to shopping malls, schools and other amenities are
important in my decision making sir. Please note that the area in
which the houses you have for me is something I have to put into a
bigger consideration as it will also help in appreciating the value of
      the house in nearer feature.

Get back to me with your full information for houses that you have so
that I can make a choice.

      Thanks

      Capt. Alan Davis

Last year a friend was contacted by a naive agent on the Costa. He said he had been contacted by a Dutch farmer who wanted to make an offer on his house. My friend pointed out that he hadn’t even viewed it. The Agent asked for more info’ for the Dutch guy….think the Agent realised it was a scam when they wanted to complete in Paris 🙄

“We received an email from the Captain a few months ago. Different content though”.

Fuengi – no, it’s the same ‘first approach’ email word-for-word that was received here also

….including all the same grammatical mistakes! You don’t think it’s Just Frank do you. 😯 😆
      only kidding Frank

Amazing that two people on this forum know about these mails, heaven knows how many thousands have been sent out. At least we know now they’re targeting more than one country, maybe all the PIIGS.
Would love to know where this guy is emailing from, is there a way of finding out via the email address? I remember P800aul once posting you can do it from the IP address or something. How does one do that?

in regards to making the rounds, being the cautious type, I did a few searches a while back to try an work out whether the email was legitimate and found a forum discussing it. Quite a few had received it including a french agency and I beleive a bulgarian one too.

Even had another costa del sol agency contact us to register Captain Davies as their client.. 😆

And a American citizen who uses English spelling!

Those emails are so obvious as scams, it’s hard to understand that anyone could believe they are genuine.

I guess the sad fact is that there are quite a few people out there that do!!!

Not at all. This scam has been doing the rounds since Gulf War II with various modifications. I think you’ll find that many one here have had this or something similar.
