Has any one heard of the above development in Benahavis? we purchased a shared ownership in a 2bed/2bath townhouses offplan after visiting the site in Aug’05 & discussing the proposed development with the company.to try and cut a long story short we rec an email last week from the owner a guy called Tony Burn, advising that all of the investors money has gone as the people he took out the construction loan with for the build were basically loan sharks/costa del crooks who have taken every penny he owns and has left him with nothing to refund to the investors.our lawyers are now dealing but im just posting this to see if anyone else has heard of or had dealings with either the company,The Off Plan Specialists (TOPS Property) or Tony Burn in the past.the dream is over for us as its unlikely we’ll ever see our life savings again but PLEASE treat this as a warning don’t trust what anyone says at face value, use an independant lawyer not the developers.i was very trusting, stupid and naive and my family will have to pay a terrible price for that mistake for a long time to come.
I am so so sorry to hear of your dreadful experience. If it’s any consolation, you are one of thousands caught out by the CDS corruption. Hopefully, you have a supportive family.
I am truely sorry to hear what has happened to you. I feel more hurt by the fact that you not only feel your hurt but clearly see the position of your family.
I am sure that you have a healthy and loving family and this rather unfortunate saga will make them bond and bring you all together.
You say loan shark ? Can you please expand on it ?. How is the money vanished. The loan shark as you say it, Would have lent the money to Tony Burns or his company.
Say the property was costing €100, you would have paid say €30 and the loan sharks would have loaned the €70. It seams to me that Mr Burns had borrowed at an excessive rate of interest/not serviced the loan and as a result eaten/eroded your €30 from the example.
It would be intresting to know what scam has been purporated, so others can learn.
Hi HarryR – what a terrible story. I tried to find the company tops and the development name on the internet with no joy. If you have more information I can take a drive up there and see what the story is – has it started at all or is it still just land? If it started build then there may be a plausible excuse, but if it is just land then yu may have been really taken for a ride and maybe you could start proceedings against Tops.
If you have a map or where in Benahavis or any info either post here of pm me and I will go see.
Try and keep your chin up – we are all thinking of you and your family.
“With TOPS, Tony wishes to create an investment vehicle for those people whose private and company pensions are not going to realise the returns they were anticipating, advising them on which of the 800 projects currently under development in the region offer the best combination of capital growth and safe investment.
A sound knowledge of the market, as well as experience in finance and mortgages, enables him to offer his clients a professional and sensible investment service.”

Hi
I also invested in River Place Country Club, I met Tony several times, and believed in what he was offering. Like you our dreams have been smashed. I have emailed him, but no response. I also know people who invested in the Dequetas development, they have been offered about 60% of their original investment.
