This story was gloated over in the Spanish press. A 15m2 flat near Kings Cross put on the market for around 900 €/month was rented out in less than a day.

You can get nice 80m2 flat in the Eixample, Barcelona’s Mayfair, for that.

Not much good renting in Barcelona if you work in London which I suspect is the case here!! Shows how hot the London sales and rental market has become, supply and demand is the difference!

No I don’t see the logic in that at all. If any of my family had suggested that I would think they had lost the plot. Less than 2 hours flying time…right. plus one hour hanging around before flight and time travelling to airport. Flights aren’t cheap either during summer and festive times.

My house in the South East would buy me an excellent French Chateau in 30 acres and a lump sum to spend…yes but no. Totally irrelevant. No one has to live exactly in central london anyway, most people with kids commute.

Obviously the cost of housing in Barcelona is almost irrelevant to people who live in London, but I’m amazed at the price differential given that we are talking within Europe and less than two hours flight time.

I know a couple with three kids living in London who have decided to get on the property ladder in Barcelona because here they can afford to buy a 200m2 flat in the Eixample whilst in London they can barely afford to buy the shoebox pictured above.

At the moment prime Barcelona costs around 10% of prime London. I think in the long run the differential between London and Barcelona will narrow, assuming nationalism doesn’t send Spain down the plughole.

I don’t think it’s a well thought out example, there are huge price differentials between London and many other parts of the UK, between London and many other beautiful parts of Europe which are more accessible than Barcelona. You can rent a 3 bed house with garden in the South East like Sussex, Kent, Essex all within 1-2 hour commute for similar money if you do your research. Why would 51,000 young Spaniards move to the UK last year, for jobs, not size of property.

I bet if you bought that London flat, in one year it will have risen in price by far more than the Barca example.

British Press gloat over Spanish property crash and unemployment.

Its cheap, 2-4 days pay for a professional.

But also illegal, the council investigated and forced the removal of the advert

Prime London is very dominated by foreign money, the rest of London is wages driven. The real measure is %age of wage spent on rent. London is predicted to get hundreds of thousands of new jobs in the next few years, after growing by a similar amount over the past few years.

As Peter says Islington Council have stepped in and removed the flat from rental market as it is illegally too small.

Gloat no more you Spanish press, now, how many illegal builds are there in Spain, do some proper research you press people? Lol
