Hi, I wonder can anybody help me. We want to bring a small car to Spain in September and keep it there. It is registered in Ireland at present and we don’t know how to go about re-registration. Does it take long, is it expensive etc. We would be grateful for any assistance. Thanks a lot.

A book called “You and the Law in Spain” to quote Amazon “The Complete and Readable Guide to Spanish Law for Foreigners (Including Horizontal Law in English)” by David Searl, has a whole chapter on it patches.

      regards

      Hi,

Cesar posted a whole load of useful info on this in response to my posting! I’ll let you know how we get on, we are awaiting the repair of my car after it was back ended, not very likely to pass the ITV at the moment!!

Hi everybody, thanks a lot for all your help. Great to receive replies so quickly as I wouldn’t know how to go about it or even where to go in Spain.

By the way, what is the position with regard to car insurance? The car is only a small Micra, but it is left-hand drive as it was imported to Ireland from Germany and now we are going to take it to Spain. We can travel over on our own insurance but maybe it would be as well to insure it there while we are in Ireland.

      Again, thanks a mil.

Just a warning, but it has taken Abbeygate 2 months to sort out my very straight forward not my fault claim, they seem extremely bad at communicating with you, I have had to chase them all the time. I don’t think they are particually cheap either, not cheap enough to warrent this level of service anyway!

One problem is that they are based in Cadiz, the underwriters in Gibalter and then a lawyer in the UK sorts out assessers etc here, so too many people in the chain I think!

They did say that it had taken a particually long time to sort out my accident, but I felt that if they had communicated with me more, I would have felt less stressed by the whole experience! Hopefully, they are not like this all the time and I just had a bad experience!
