Well, it is the weekend and we could all do with some good news re. a triumph over beaurocracy
….. and a smile.
The Town Hall itself will pay the fine of the goatherd who has been camping outside the building with his animals
There’s been a happy ending in the case of the impoverished goatherd who, with his herd of goats, has been camping out in the Town Hall square in Salobreña for days in protest at a massive fine for building an illegal shelter for his animals. Santiago Alonso was originally fined 1,700 € four years ago. He had his house embargoed as he was unable to pay it and the surcharges over the years make the amount now more than 10,000 €.
An extraordinary council meeting on Wednesday agreed that the Town Hall itself will pay the fine they imposed. The fine cannot be cancelled, but the money to pay it, at the proposal of the Mayor, will come out of the budget set aside for the political groups in the local corporation.
La Opinión de Granada says the Town Hall building is closed for two days for fumigation after the departure of its unexpected guests.
