We are looking into purchasing an apartment on La Manga but are getting conflicting views on the area. Some say traffic is awful especially in August but out of peak season everything is closed. Has anyone any knowledge of the area?
Thanks
I drove along the strip sometime during March this year. Must say I was not impressed with the strip at all, not the kind of place I would personally buy. The traffic was busy but no real problems. No idea what it would be like in August. I would say that the whole of Mar Menor is quiet during March, with lots of places closed, and this is probably reflected throughout Murcia. I stayed in San Pedro and very few restaraunts were open at night, and not many for lunch. Did not get the chance to play golf, but I am sure that would have been good.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Most communal pools are closed from November to March. Despite the claims of 300 days of sunshine per year, it can get cold, especially at night.
Just my opinion at the ned of the day. I guess you should try and visit now to see what it is like
Thanks Kevin,
One of our worries is the area will get really busy in August and of course we can’t check this out. Maybe we will stick to the North!

Urszula
La Manga Strip is rammed in August, it would drive you mad, I work in this area and would recommend buying in the coastal areas of the Mar Menor.
It does close down in Winter, but the area is growing and in years to come I would expect more and more business’s open as more and more people move into the area.
In Spain La Manga strip is the equivalent of Blackpool or Skegness, so I wouldn’t buy there unless that is your cup of tea.
I have to say, I wasn’t that impressed with the strip. Traffic wasn’t too bad, though my only summer visit was in July of this year. As a natural feature, the strip and the Mar Menor are just incredible. The trouble is what they have gone and built there. Very tasteless, to say the least.
We were on the strip in April last year. Absolutely dead. Most of the apartments had the shutters down and the place was like a ghost town. I have also heard that traffic is a real problem in the Summer months, as there is only one way in and out.
I would certainly look elsewhere in the area -there are much nicer places, eg Los Alcazares.
I was in the area 2 weeks ago, I agree, the strip is just like Blackpool, they even have hotels built like tacky castles etc.
I stayed at the La manga club, this is not near the strip and is stunning, they have plenty of property for sale there, check it out.
Also further north, around Alcazares on the mar Menor there are some beutiful villages and harbours with property for sale and I would reccommend that area.
I am looking to buy at Roda, 5 minutes inland
