I am not sure how to ask this, but is there any statistics on which UK buyers bought in various places in Spain?

I mean, I heard that the builders around Torrevieja were showcasing their properties mostly in the North East and North West whereas the ones around Malaga more in the South East.

Do you see this in Spain?

Same for the holiday makers. Do people from North West UK or North East UK tend to go to different places than people from say around London?

No idea really, but Torrevieja is such an awful, depressing place, you could be right! 😀

Whilst I can’t say for sure, having spent over a year following the market, I’m pretty certain there are no such stats available.

One of the problems with the Spanish property market is the lack of any reliable data. The official figures are laughable and even the best of the indexes, Tinsa, is flawed as it is based on asking rather than actual selling prices. As a potential purchaser you have to learn to read between the lines and all the hype that is still out there.

There could have been targeted marketing in different areas of the UK. As property was cheaper in the North maybe Torrevieja was pushed as a cheaper place. Suppose Agents like Atlas realised that people in the North had less value to release from their assets.

I have noticed that some developments in Marbella have a majority of eg. Irish, another many from Norway. We used to have a house in a gated community and everyone except us came from Madrid. No-one there except for Semana Santa and July/August

I was looking for holiday rentals during over the week-end.

The cheapest rents (for like-to-like quality) are the ones where British bought.
The ones with mostly Spanish owners like Castellon (Costa Azahar) are much more expensive than say in Denia-M0raira-Javea or even Marbella-Mijas-Nerja.

One other observation is about say Easyjet prices. To cost of Jul;y-August 2010 flights from Liverpool or Glasgow to Alicante or Murcia are now higher than the ones to Malaga or Barcelona (they were more or less the same two weeks ago when the Summer 2010 sale started). So I guess more people from the North England and Scotland go to Costa Blanca than Costa del Sol (for whatever reason…).
