My husband and I have a timeshare at the resort of El Marques, Puerto de Santiago. I have been researching the need for an NIE. It appears that I can attend the Spanish Consulate in London but my husband needs to attend as well. Due to his ongoing ill health and disability problems this is not an option for him. Is there any other way of obtaining this number?

If you need to do it from the UK, I see only option as giving power of attorney to a lawyer/gestor in Spain so he can apply on your behalves.
Good weekend!

Maria – is it possible to get the NIE at the Spanish Embassy in London? I seem to recall (a while ago) that I saw this on one of the many forums. Thank you.

Yes Cathy, you can apply for an NIE at the Spanish consulate in London.
This should help:

MArk is right of course. I didn´t mention that other possibility as it seemed to me as the one you already knew and have ruled out due to your husband being ill. A Notary Public may be nearer to your address and may even visit you at home for you to grant power of attorney.
Best,
Maria

I done mine in London, it’s been over two months now, not a peep out of them.

You are not going to get much out of them in any aspect of the Embassy function.
The civil servents based have some very good contacts and get the posting for this reason. They are not accountable. Goes back to the question of Spanish Civil Service.
I can say this without upsetting my Spanish friends as they are well aware of this and fully agree with me.
