NIE requirements

      Hi,

      Can anyone advise if I can obtain an NIE prior to purchasing a home?

      We will be looking for a home as permanent residents and will be cash buyers.

      aldo do we apply firstly as non resident and then change it when we move over there?

      Hi,

      Just done exactly what you are planning.

      Our abogado arranged my NIE, took about 10 days to come through after signing. You will need it before you can purchase the property even if paying in cash.

      The short answer to your question, is yes, you do need to be registered to purchase a property, and the NIE is the simplest way to start off.

      The above posts are correct.  I have recently bought a property and my solicitor handled all the NIE requirements.  The process only took 5 days.
