If you are in London and you are used to the Barbican or South Bank or near to Brighton with the Dome or the Marlowe in Canterbury -these are places I know -in the winter there is a nice city Las Palmas that I am pleased to be near where you have access to the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium on the Las Canteras beach and on the other side in the lovely San Telmo district the Teatro Perez Galdos. The former (http://www.ofgrancanaria.com) specialises in Orchestral concerts with the resident Gran Canaria Philarmonic and visiting international orchestras the latter (http://www.guidelocio.com) theatre and opera. The Perez Gados repertoire not as full as last year at present but it usually added to through the season (.A nice city to live in or be near if you like city life and look for a climate that is comfortable throughout the year without heating or much in the way of air conditioning)

In the Canaries there is much in the way of singing and dancing and local orchestras. In Grani Canaria very noticeable in the south in the Province of Mogan. which is the administrative area that includes Arguiniguin Puerto Rico and Mogan. Much of this is assisted financially and organised by the Ayuntamiento -the local authority and musical education is very prominent in the education of the young people. Of course in the winter period there are the big Carnivals that attract thousands of people and take place in February in Las Palmas and in Maspalomas that are outdoors in the sunshine and go on into the night that involve much music and dancing and singing fancy dressing and colourings that are very exotic. Yes Spain with a touch of Africa
