hELLO we are an english family hoping to move over to Asturias in September, we’re looking for a property at the moment. Our children are very young, 4years and twins of 16months. Does anyone know much about the schools in this area. I s any area more preferable with a young family? 😀 ❓

You will sure like living here (What else I can say I was born, live and practice here 😀 )

There are many different places here… the center of Asturias is more populated and industrialized, being Oviedo (Capital City) Gijón (My place… best place :D:D:D:D) and Avilés most important places, also in that neighborhood you may find Villaviciosa, Cudillero and Pravia in the coast (some of your countrymen are now buying around there also) Siero and the ‘Cuencas’ where heavy industry is placed. Then you have the east part of Asturias, most touristic area in Towns like Llanes (lots of people from the UK, Germany and Euskadi in summer), the west area, near Galicia (Tapia, Castropol… nice seaside there) and of course the rural areas inland (green, high and wet but quieter)

As for Schools you should ask Heather, a regular to this forum, also living here with her kids And I think her husband works in an English School

My wife also teaches English in a bilingual project school in Gijón but that’s a public-founded center and quite difficult to enter there I’m afraid, there is a lot of demand every year. Anyway I’ve heard they want to extend this bilingual (Spanish-English) teaching to at least 120 different schools all over Asturias in next years.

Hi – I can help with your schools situation.

      click on http://www.mec.es/
This is the official website for schools in Spain. From here you can search for all schools in spain. You will need to create your searches in Spanish though! Let me know if you have trouble.

basically – education – centros- click on the map and look on the drop down boxes for town and then choose which type of school!

Also check out http://www.top-tour-of-spain.com/interesting-facts-about-spain.html – which explains about some of the procedure for enroling into Spanish schools.

      Also helpful to you:http://www.spainpropertyfinder.net/schoolsinformation.htm

I think quite a good explanation of the system. Also helpful is:
      http://www.schools-in-spain.com/

Hope this helps – good luck

You may also try this link:

http://www.educastur.princast.es/ (official site of educational authority of Asturias)

In the tag ‘centros educativos’, select ‘directorio de centros’ you will find all schools in Asturias (private and public) and their info and in most cases their web-page link. I suggest you to sort them by ‘concejo’, and then ‘buscar’ the site will give you a list of every one in that area, clicking in then you will get all useful info.
