      Quick question chaps and chapesses

Is it a good idea to buy a mobile phone (a cheap one!) on a PAYG basis in Spain rather than taking your own mobile with you while househunting? Obviously it will get further use out there when we purchase. I only have a PAYG mobile in the UK, I only use it for emergencies and rarely have it switched on 😉

My wife suggested this to me the other day and I thought I’d see what you all think!

      Cheers

I would say it is well worth getting a Spanish number – when we were looking to buy there were some agents who wouldn’t phone us on a UK mobile because of the cost!

You may find that people are more communacative with a Spanish number.

Don’t forget to let them know that you’ll only be using it for a short time though – you don’t want them trying to get hold of you for the next 6 months on a phone that you’ve turned off!

A cheaper option is to only buy a SIM card. Most UK phones have the ability to use an overseas SIM card even if locked to a network, but do check first.

I agree to get a Spanish SIM. Please do not load with a lot of €s as any left over credit gets eaten up by the provider. (Welcome to Spain and this will just be for starters )

Please read my postings on the subject.
