Though I love the food in Spain, one thing I miss living here is smoked kippers.

Online kipper merchants in places like Scotland won’t deliver to Spain because they have too many problems with returns.

Anyone know of a specialist food distributor importing and selling kippers in Spain?

Mark, if you can buy fresh herrings in Spain, why not take a barbecue with a lid to the beach and hot smoke some there for immediate use, or there must be smokeries in Barcelona that you could take a variety of fish to cold smoke them over 24 hours? 😉

A great idea Angie, but I’m not capable of that sort of foodie creativity. I just want a boil-in-a-bag 🙂

Maybe some good news for you Mark, apparently arenque ahumados are the Spanish equivalent, and I saw on British Expats some posts from 2011 which said Mercadona sells them frozen, so maybe stores like El Corte Ingles might too, in Barcelona? You could be eating kippers by this time next week 😉 😛

You can also buy kippers in Leclerc supermarkets in France on the fish counter. They are yummy.

Thanks, but which area are you talking about? I wouldn’t be surprised if they stocked different things in different regions like Alicante, where there are lots of Brits.
