He’s the guy who bought Torre España recently.

Now he’s bought an area of land in “campamento” – a disused military barracks in a modest but fairly central part of Madrid, which already has the permits in place to be developed.

It smells of Eurovegas, but this guy seems much more genuine than Sheldon Adelson.

edit – not sure if he’s actually bought the land – they seemed to be saying so on the TV earlier

Yes, it’s curious how keen this guy is on Spain. I wonder why.

Yes I think Spain is trying to position itself as China’s portal to the EU – and I think it’s a pretty good strategy. Provided the Spanish don’t ask too many questions about where the money comes from, and the Chinese don’t ask too many questions about where it goes, everyone’s happy! Besides, Spain needs the investment that the EU has been denying it for the last 7 years so it’s hardly suprising they’re looking elsewhere.

A chance to get in the market at a relatively low cost in 1 of Europe’s capitals. There is a huge Chinese business population in Spanish cities as we know, and no doubt he has access to sales trends, business growth etc. Not that he would necessarily be right, but being well-informed is a major advantage.
