Just bought a resale apartment in North Costa Blanca,got about 20% less than asking price for second line on coast near Gandia.Superb English speaking Lawyer,fees 50% of usual quote from other lawyers,no problem with NIE,transferring funds,great Bank and completion arrangements transferring services.Learnt a lot doing it and willing to share experience with anyone who is interested in doing same in the same area.

It reiterates what all of us know – that there are excellent agents, lawyers and banks in Spain if one choses well….which is the difficult bit!If you are so satisfied with the services provided by your lawyer, perhaps it is worth letting Mark know (administrator of the forum) to add to his list of recommended ones in your area – if your lawyer is not already on it!
Your offer to help others from your experience is just as valuable here as the ‘warnings of pitfalls’ from others of us who didn’t fare quite so well.

Just like to add that even if there is a correction in the housing market of up to 40%,if youre in for the longhaul and retirement to Spain and buying quality property in good location,dont let Ralita’s comments put anyone off.
I will let Mark know the name of the solicitor in Gandia so others may benefit and finally a big thank you to all who responded to my queries whilst doing my research on this excellent website.I couldn’t have done it without your assistance. I am also indebted to Maurice Hamlin on the Practical spain website who also provided excellent advice and assistance especially with Banks. -

Let’s see. If someone is in it for long haul, then go ahead and pay 20% more than the property is worth? What would be the reason to do that?
The Spanish crash is at the beggining, I think anybody can wait for a couple of years to get a bargain. -

I know Maurice Hamlin and his wife – they are very good people who will help you long after your sale goes through and used to help run the Gandia Area Social Club (not so sure if they still do). However they do a lot more than just sell houses and if you need any information then Maurice will be able to put you in touch with all the right people.
If you speak to him tell him Vince says hi (Vals son) – he went to see my Nan in hospital – because she couldn’t speak Spanish and she was scared – he and his wife Jay were there every day for an hour in between my parents my sister and myself. The pair are absolutely wonderful people – you have truly met one of the few true gentlefolk in this area
