      Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good company for House insurance? We live here permenantly, I possibly could manage to sort this out in Spanish but English speaking would be much quicker…Rawlins, I had no choice but to learn Spanish as only a few people speak English here, but I like it that way!

I keep reading of companies that give you more than the standard Spanish house insurance but have no idea what that is! Can anyone enlighten me!!

      Thanks
      Heather

Hi Heather – we are insured with MAPFRE. Their cover is very comprehensive and their literature is produced in both English and Spanish.

Their telephone number is 902 136 527. Their Head Office is in Madrid – Apartado no 757 F.D. – 28080 Madrid

Maybe you should contact a ‘Correduría’

They can look for you which product suits you best from many companies.

They usually treat you better and sometimes even offer better prices as they do mass contracting

May put you in contact with my corredor here in Asturias if you wish

I can recommend Roy Knight of Knight Insurance. He is very helpful for both personal and community (urbanisation) insurance and also car insurance.

My neighbour is insured with MAPFRE. Whilst they are a very large company and their policy document is in English and they have English speaking staff, she had a flood in early February and we’re still trying to get an assessor out. They wanted to send a plumber, we said it’s not a burst pipe and still they haven’t turned up. They also tried to push it back on the constructor as we are a new urbanisation.

I found Mapfre very expensive. There are internet insurance agents but you need a good level of Spanish. You could try Hifx as they have insurance policy underwritten by Norwich Union I think and it seems very good.

I used Banco Andalucia, they had a sub division called Allianz Home Insurance.
Very good service and seemed pretty cheap 😀

We use http://www.easycover.net Very good on price & all else. Policy is in English & you can mail them through their site. An English member of staff then rings you & discusses your options. The claims line is staffed by English speaking staff too. You can opt to pay by Direct debit or we asked to pay by using our bank card so they have to get in touch re next payment not just take it as companies in Spain are tending to do from what I’ve read in forums. Mail & request a list of insured limits.
