A friend of mine wishes to move to Spain by way of obtaining a resident visa (non EU citizen ) Money is not a issue !!!!

      a) I recall reading somewhere that if one invests X amount he is allowed to have a permanant residency. Can the forum users please point me to the right website link.

      b) I believe that the current Government is planning to grant residency to people who buy a property in excess of €250,000. May I please have the thread.

Thanks to all in advance. Come on Katy & Angie where are you when I need you.

Your friend must have a lot of money then, probably over €250,000. Spain has strict money laundering rules and the authorities will need to be notified of such a large money transfer. Looks very suspicious to me. Why the sudden rush to become a citizen of Spain when many British expats live there well beyond the three months that they are entitled to. I cannot believe that the Spanish Government ever gives the automatic right to citizenship just for buying a house in cash regardless of the amount involved.

Your friend seems to be so dodgy that I think he/she should find a property on the costa-del-crime.

Beside if he/she buys a property in Spain for €250,000 then that property will almost certainly end up being worth half as much in a few years once Spain drops out of the Euro and adopts the Peseta and the economy continues to unravel.

From which country is this person trying to emigrate from by the way? Is it Columbia or Mexico with lots of drug money or from Russia earned from protection rackets and involvement with the Mafia. If this person has so much money they would surely be better off living in that country rather than trying to emigrate to a country like spain that is in total economic meltdown and is facing a twenty year long catastrophe.

Yes it is rather hard to find slightly older threads since jakesuper decided to start twenty odd new topics that had been covered extensively before.

      But here it is anyway:

      viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6165&start=15

(Also it took a bit of time to dig the information out of that thread since it was full of irrelevant comments from various people)

Or just somebody who bought property over 10 years ago and is cashing in. €250k really isn’t an excessive amount of money when it comes to property investment.

I DO NOT WISH TO OPEN THE BALANCE SHEET OF OTHERS ON A PUBLIC FORUM. WHAT IS LOT IS A VERY SUBJECTIVE. (Prince Charles bought a big estate in Romania. Sure he was money laundering !!i )

“Spain has strict money laundering rules and the authorities will need to be notified of such a large money transfer “

AS HE WISHES TO FORMALLY RESIDE. ALL NEEDS TO BE FORMALISED IT STANDS TO REASON THAT THE AUTHORITIES WILL HAVE ALL MANNER OF DISCLOSURES TO HAND.

      Looks very suspicious to me.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY MILLIONAIRES ARE THERE IN THE WORLD ? JUST BECAUSE €250K IS A LARGE SUM TO YOU.

Why the sudden rush to become a citizen of Spain

HE DOES NOT WANT TO BE A CITIZEN. HE JUST WANTS A RESIDENCY.

when many British expats live there well beyond the three months that they are entitled to.

HE NOT A EU CITIZEN. IF YOU CARE TO READ & NOT VIEW THE WORLD WITH UN FOUNDED SUSPICION.

I cannot believe that the Spanish Government ever gives the automatic right to citizenship just for buying a house in cash regardless of the amount involved.

SEE ABOVE. IF REQUIRED HE CAN BUY FOR CASH I.E. WITHOUT A MORTGAGE. HE IS ONE OF THE TOP A SUPREME COURT JUDGE WITH FAMILY WEALTH FOR GENERATIONS AND HAS NEVER LIVED IN A MORTGAGED PROPERTY (COME TO UK FOR GROUSE SHOOTING )

Your friend seems to be so dodgy that I think he/she should find a property on the costa-del-crime.

A SUPREME COURT JUDGE !!!!!!!!!!!!! HE MAY SETTLE IN CATALUNIA FOR EASE OF FLYING AS HIS KINDS ARE IN GERMANY, UK & USA.

Beside if he/she buys a property in Spain for €250,000 then that property will almost certainly end up being worth

UNLIKE VERY MANY BRITISH BUYING A PLACE, AFTER A TINTO & THE SUN SHINE. HE IS VERY PRUDENT & SCHREWED AND NOT GOING TO BUY IN SOME BACK WATERS & I WILL ENSURE THAT HE DOES NOT BUY IN SUCH A PLACE. SPAIN IS MORE THAT THAN THE COSTAS.

half as much in a few years once Spain drops out of the Euro and adopts the Peseta and the economy continues to unravel.

WE CANNOT PREDICT WHAT WILL HAPPEN. HE IS NOT BUYING AS AN INVESTMENT AND WISH TO USE THE PLACE TO WRITE & PLAY GOLF.

From which country is this person trying to emigrate from by the way? Is it Columbia or Mexico with lots of drug money or from Russia earned from protection rackets and involvement with the Mafia.

NONE OF THE ABOVE. SCRATCH YOR HARD A BIT MORE.

SURELY, YOU ARE WRONG IN YOUR LIMITED VIEW OF THE WORLD. PEOPLE MIGRATE FOR MANY REASONS. WHY DID YOU THINK PICASSO MIGRATED TO FRANCE ?

@dartboy. I do not think he is a Banker, otherwise he would not consider €250k a lot of money. Coming from Dartford your local lad made good ( I am talking about Mick ) would I consider that his money is earned from performimg for the Mafia of Russia, Mexico & Columbia.

Shakeel, tell your friend to look at the spanish consulate website in the country where he has citizenship, details will be there. What about Gibraltar? they have a similar scheme and more tax friendly. Don’t forget once they obtain Spanish residency they have to pay tax on worldwide income and it is considerably higher than eg. UK.

Thank you Katy. I am well aware of world wide income implictions & so is he. His affairs are well tax planned & may need a tweaking.

One does protect family wealth with due consideration. I would not have mentioned all this if it was not to respond to jakesuper. Who seems to think that if one has more than a tenner in the pocket it is obtained from illicit activities.

I had worked in Gibraltar & found it very suffocationg in more sense than one. Within moments of Landing the whole of Gibratar knows that there was a new kid in town.

Would you like to be the neighbour of Mark Thacter ????. ( I believe Mark is driving coahes for the olympic visitors and getting lost )
