If you are over 18, European and on the padrón, you can vote in the European elections in June. You should check that your name is posted on the voters’ list (posted hopefully in your town hall until April 27th) and ask to be added if your name is not there (you would need to have been six months minimum on the padrón).
Why vote – the PP and the PSOE don’t represent the Europeans living in Spain…
Well, today I spoke with Sean O’Curneen Cañas, who is half Irish half Spanish and was born in Madrid. He’s now living in Brussels and works for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (as the political centre is called these days) and he is also the candidate in Spain for the Centro Democrático Liberal (CDL) for the European elections. His campaign blog is at http://www.sean2009.es.
He could be the ideal candidate for the European residents in Spain because he is fluent in English, is well aware of the problems we face (having faced them himself) and he is ‘up to speed’ on the property abuse issues in Valencia (re: The Auken Report and Land Grab) as well as our problems down in Andalucía.
