As part of a move to provide more social housing Catalunya and Andalucia move against repossessed and empty properties. Spain is awash with properties for rent and this move will likely depress rental rates even further.

Yes there was some Andalucian politician in the news a week or two ago saying that “empty properties” were a crime against society, or some nonsense along those lines. Like they’ve really got a shortage of homes down there 🙄 🙄 🙄

Now they are talking about doing this in Catalonia. Seems they have started a fashion.

If the state continues to adopt totalitarian laws taxing people on decisions relating to their own property the market for foreigners will disappear altogether.

We now have in the pipe line bans on holiday renting, high taxation if you leave it empty, forced compulsory purchase, land grab and higher capital gains if you sell it. Then and just wait until you die, you’ve guessed it, taxed again. 👿 Who on earth wants to buy in Spain with prior knowledge of all the consequences?

I sometimes wonder if this government has hidden agenda to discourage foreign property investors. They are certainly going about it the right way.
