HI ALL IM IN THE MIDDLE OF BUYING MY FIRST PROPERTY IN MARBELLA BUT I JUST RECIEVED AN EMAIL TODAY SAYIN THAT I AM BASICALLY BEING CHARGED DOUBLE STAMP DUTY, IS THIS RIGHT OR IS SOMEONE TRYING TO TAKE ME FOR A MUG?
I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP BECAUSE MY FAMILY AND I ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FLYING OUT ON THE 12TH JAN TO OUR NEW PROPERTY, THIS HAS BEEN DRAGGING ON SINCE SEPTEMBER

To my knowledge. If you are buying a New property you dont pay stamp duty as such as you are paying VAT ( however there is a small amount under 1%)
If the property is second hand you pay around 6%. These may have changed. But certainly no way there is a double stamp duty ot VAT . It is against the basic fundamentals of taxation

I was also confused over this!
Didn’t realise stamp duty had to be paid on property and again on mortgage.
I found the following link helpful-
