As I go to a conference in Madrid end of July, I was looking to extend my stay in Spain for another 1-2 weeks somewhere on the Coasts.

It seems that rentals on Costa del Sol are almost double to what one can achieve in Murcia or Alicante areas. Does this have a quality reason or people simply try to cover their investments/mortages?

Who is to say, each property will have its own reasons for its pricing.

I am to say, after looking at holidaylettings and other sites.

Costa del Sol has very few apartments for under £300/week in July-August whereas Murcia and Costa Blanca has many for under £200 for the same period. Comparable places (2 bedrooms, pool, air conditioning,
sea not too far, etc).

Why would Nerja be the centre of London and Cabo Roig or Javea the outskirts of Bradford?

Well in this case you pay what the going rate is & have your say. I cant see, what further the forum can assist you. Costs Blanca had always been 30% cheaper to buy than Costa del Sol. Here is a hint for you.
