      Hi,

I wonder if anyone has any views regarding property purchase in this area. I visited the region about 6 years ago and have been thinking about revisiting and buying property as a holiday home rather than investment. I understand that a lot of new villas have been built recently in the areas around Competa and consider this might be a good place to purchase.

Any advice or thoughts people may have would be welcome. I have also seen the website of Countryproperties.net , I would welcome pm’s about the agents working in this area, also seen website for marbellasolicitors.com.

      Any information would be appreciated.

Nice village and countryside. However, many of the houses in the countryside are illegal so be careful. It’s also a dangerous white knuckle 7km drive up a mountain road to get to it which I would think would get a bit tiring after a while. Nice day trip though.

I have dealt with countryproperties.net about 5 years ago myself and found them to be very professional. We decided not to buy in Competa as we felt it might be a bit too quiet and that hairpin bend road did nit no favours either. We ended up buying in roquetas de mar in almeria and feel it was the right decision for us at the time. I ofter wonder what compete is like now. Good luck with your decision and hope you choose the right place for you, regards, Sandra

Thanks for the feedback, I remember visiting the area about 8 -10 years ago I must have have approached it from a differant direction as I do not recall the road being that scary.

Anyway once again thanks for the replies, I seem to think that the agent country properties are ok to deal with it’s nice to know that someone has had dealings with them.

      Hello,

We read everything we could about Competa (even watched the t.v show where a couple were shown a property there), it was top of the list on our viewing trip two years ago.

Competa itself lived up to our expectations, but it was the road which put us off. We drove up to Competa at least 4 times during our 2 week stay to see if it got any easier, but we decided that we would soon get very frustrated having to endure this journey every time we wanted to go anywhere.

‘Sorry I cannot help you regards agents, but good luck with your quest and I hope you find what you are looking for.

      Eileen.

I was told the Algarrobo/ Sayalonga road was better than the Torrox road to get to Competa. If anybody can advise it would help.

Road not good. Spend most of the time pinned against the wall trying to avoid the many scooters which speed through the village at all hours. Decided not to buy here.

Have lived just outside Competa since 1994. The roads are winding, however, the Algorroba – Competa road is currently being widened, upgraded and re-surfaced, and the Torrox- Competa road will be done next.
I am sure that part of the beauty of this area is due to the roads being as they are. Had they been straight and wide, Competa would not have remained a hillside village, it would now be part of the “Costa”.
There has been quiet a lot of building in recent years, and yes, there are illegal buildings around, but the advise, as always, is make sure that all the paperwork is in order, that Escrituras are in place for finished properties, or that the proper licenses and projectos have been obtained for plots. Bare in mind that it is no longer possible to take a sketch to the town hall and come away with permission to build, things have tightened up drasticaly. If in doubt, walk away.
The company mentioned, Country Properties, have been trading in the village for a number of years, and I have bought and sold property through them. They are well established, a very reputable company, with a good aftersales service.
The village itself, whilst larger than it was, is still a working village, liveley, and with plenty of charm. There are some excellent bars and restaurants, and the villagers are, in general, very welcoming and hospitable.

      Thanks fincalospinos,

I have just returned to day from staying in Competa and I can confirm that Countryproperties were very professional, I also met with another agent who I found equally good, no pressure, no hassle and knowlegeable about the area. I had no problems with the roads at all in fact it only took about 10 mins to get from a property we viewed on the Torrox coast to the motorway. We are currently considering this property it was well built and had very good access.

Although I realise that the rain is very much needed it did make for an interesting day on Monday!
