An agreement has been reached between Barcelona’s city council and CatalunyaCaixa (CX) for the provision of 105 of the bank’s properties as social housing. The agreement was signed by the mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, and the President of CatalunyaCaixa, José Carlos Pla.
The flats will be let at rents well below market prices to disadvantaged families who are otherwise unable to freely access the property market. Although there will initially be 105 properties involved in the scheme the possibility of its future expansion has been left open.
The properties meet all the necessary standards for quality, location and amenities and are all between 50 and 80m2 in size. The rents will range from 150-350 euros per month.
As part of the agreement a number of the properties involved in the scheme will be managed by the city council. Those that will be given highest priority when applying for this social housing will be families with young children, pensioners and young people that wish to gain financial independence.
