The two cities are very similar in many ways, major airport, sea port, near the beach gateway to Andalusia or Catalunia. one had Dali or had Picasso, both has the old & tradional part. On balance Malaga has better weather & a longer summer.

Why Malaga is not held in the same esteem as Barcelona ????

Barcelona is more highly regarded because…

It is the second most important city in Spain and a major commercial center
Picasso, Dali, Gaudi and many other artists
      The food is much better
Has a world class soccer team
An old town that knocks the spots off Malaga

      ….That aside, can’t think of much. 🙂

I too would prefer Barcelona, I love the place

Last time I looked, property was way too expensive for a cheapskate like me though 😳

Barcelona is much bigger, with much more to offer. It is also considerably more beautiful, and better run. Compared to Barcelona, Málaga city is very provincial, though that might suit some people 😉

What are the roads like in Barcelona? In málaga it can take an hour to get through the city at peak periods.

In my experience, the traffic in Barcelona is every bit as chaotic and congested as that in Malaga, arguably more so.

Barcelona is by far the better city, has a nice european feel/look to it as well. IT is also classified as a ‘world class city’.

In my experience, the traffic in Barcelona is generally quite good.

When I was up there 2 years ago I found the natives quite grumpy. They didnt want to understand my Spanish – they want independence and their language as the official language!! And there was some major footie competition on, Spain won and there were no celebrations at all. The coffee names are different (no Sombre there its a nube)

Im not keen on Malaga itself but the area suits me – and its a lot warmer!

Inezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, dont you start the Catalan issue. We still struggling between English & Spanish. They would be grumpy as they are
      “tacanios”.

      Cheers
