Out of all the Spanish provinces Alicante is the one that saw the most purchases by foreigners in the first quarter of 2013 with 2,485 house sales far ahead of its nearest competitor, Malaga (992).

This statistic has been provided by Isabel Bonig the Counselor for Infrastructure, Planning & Environment for the Valencian region. Ms Bonig was giving a presentation to show what the region’s government is doing to help increase sales of homes to foreigners.

A total of 8,940 homes were sold in the Valencian region in the quarter, 2,861 to foreigners. Of these the Castellon province accounted for just 127, Valencia for 249 and Alicante 2,485, the vast majority.

For Spain as a whole sales of property to foreigners registered a total turnover of 1.6 billion euros in 2012 which represents 40% of the Spanish real estate sector’s total turnover for last year.
