We are planning to visit the area to look for a holiday home. Would appreciate advice on best place to stay as a base for our fact finding trip. We want to haved a few days relaxing as well so would like to be based where there is a little nightlife. Want to be within 30 mins drive of Murcia airport. Also would appreciate input from members who already stay or own property in this area as to where to avoid in terms of purchasing a property. Not too bothered about being on the coast. We are still licking our very raw wounds from our first attempt at buying on the costas. Not interested in new developments AT ALL. No agents please, we are doing our own thing this time with the help of an excellent independent lawyer.
Hi Miren,
There are a few agents on here who will give you honest advice and try to steer you in the right direction and possibly even suggest places you can stay at resonable rates.
I know a lot of them have a bad reputation but please believe me there some who will bend over backwards for you.
Hi Miren.
We went for our first trip 2 years ago with Parador and since then have been on 6 further house hunting trips on our own.
I have basically just researched everything on the web.
We booked cheap flights through Easyjet and booked cheap hotels like La Marina near Santa Pola on the N332 and a very cheap one last time near Torrevieja.
The hotels had internet access and bed and breakfast for approx £125 for 2 people for a week. Can’t be bad.
I found all the properties I wanted to view on the relevant websites of various agents and arranged viewings by e-mail.
Generally devoting a day to each agent.
We completed a property purchase this January and have been thrilled with the agents that we have dealt with on the Costa Blanca.
Car hire is cheap and cheerful but you can manage without because all the agents were willing to collect us from our hotels to take us around the properties.
It’s not difficult at all. 😀
Hi Miren
We are buying in The Costa Calida and we have stayed in Los Alcazares many times whilst waiting for our property to be finished. Have a look at the web site for Hotel Costa Narejos in Los Alcazares. It’s right by the beach and bars, restaurants etc and only 5 mins from Murcia airport. It’s a good base for exploring the Costa Calida and south Costa Blanca.
If you are going for a week, or longer, there are some good quality rentals in Los Alcazares.
We have bought independently and off plan but if doing it again we would buy a new(ish) resale. There are loads of new properties in this area, some brand new and never occupied and some only a few months old. The prices are better than buying off plan too! Golf course developments are dominating this area, but we have bought a villa slightly inland which is not on a golf course as you get more property for your money. It depends what you want. There are lots of forums dedicated to this area where you can find out more.
Hi Miren
I have just joined the forum myself. We have just completed on our new place. I agree with garyco. With so many horror stories about off plan places I personally wouldn’t do it. We actually bought ours when it was a shell and we could see what we were buying. I have to say when it was finished it was better than we had hoped for. Garyco is right there are so many already built propeties and ready for occupation you will be able to take your pick. Also puts you in a good position for negotiating on price too when they want to get off site. We were told by varying agents we wouldn’t get anything close to the beach. I researched on the internet, found a nice indepedent agent who lives in costa calida after already been on an inspection with one of the big boys. We knew where we wanted to be and he found us the perfect place. Ten minutes walk from the mar menor. Don’t listen to the rubbish they tell you. You’ll know when you find the right place for you, we did.
Good luck.
