La Vanguardia reports that 40,000 flats, 227 buildings, with a total of 230,433 beds, have been legally registered as tourist rentals in Catalonia in the last two years.
That’s about just under half the total number of properties being offered as tourist rentals (the majority illegally) according to local government estimates of half a million tourist rentals in the region.
They are trying to clamp down on tourist rentals. The regional authorities have issued fines of €1m to date, the biggest one to Airbnb, I read.
