Antares Barcelona: On the waterfront

Antares Barcelona is the best address in Barcelona’s most modern neighbourhood, on a now highly sought-after waterfront that the city once turned its back on.

Antares Barcelona is a pioneering residential development in Barcelona’s most up-and-coming district, well placed to enjoy the exciting benefits of new amenities, waterfront living and easy access. All the signs point towards a sustained and long-term increase in the appeal and value of the Diagonal Mar district where Antares Barcelona is the most iconic residential building with arguably the most to gain from the area’s transformation.

Diagonal Mar is located at the seafront end of Avenida Diagonal, the city’s longest avenue, and sits within the district of San Marti just north of Barcelona’s centre. This area and the adjoining Forum of Cultures are currently undergoing exciting change. Bordered by the Mediterranean, the city centre and the Besos river, Diagonal Mar is a former industrial zone that has been redeveloped and repurposed to attract investment and create a lively new neighbourhood.

Diagonal Mar is a planned community that combines residential, retail, leisure, transport and business premises in an area that offers accessibility, convenience and space. The hills and sea that border Barcelona give the city its unique character but also mean its urban expansion is limited, so Diagonal Mar is possibly Barcelona’s last available area for development.

If you love Barcelona for its combination of relaxing beach life and vibrant culture, Diagonal Mar has it all to offer. Residents of Antares Barcelona benefit from having the beach literally on their doorstep. Llevant beach is not only the newest beachfront in the city but the only one that is dog friendly, it’s also bordered by the Passeig Maritim, the boardwalk that runs almost the full length of the city beaches.

Active types are well catered for with several large parks, including the designer Parc Diagonal Mar and Parc del Fòrum, with its opportunities for skateboarding and in-line skating as well as regular public events. Swimmers have easy access to the huge saltwater pool of Banys del Fòrum, and if sailing is your thing, there are plans for upgrades to the nearby marina, Port del Fòrum. Greening of the area adjacent to the marina is among the proposed enhancements for the waterfront here and residents also benefit from the proximity of the Parc Fluvial del Besos, a 115-square hectare rewilded area on the banks of the River Besos.

Retail and entertainment, not to say plenty of dining options, are also available close by. Diagonal Mar shopping and cinema complex, one of the largest in Catalonia, has three floors of stores, fashion boutiques, a food court and an 18-screen cinema. Tucked away in the streets of Diagonal Mar and along the seafront you’ll also find plenty of bars and restaurants.

Diagonal Mar is a space for business and innovation, best exhibited by the iconic, lattice-like façade of Diagonal Zero Zero, the headquarters of Telefonica Group. Events at the International Conference Centre attract global companies, while a programme of redevelopment called @22 has created the right conditions for new, high-tech businesses in the adjacent Poblenou district.

Plans for the future include several new luxury hotels and prime residential developments, and ongoing investment in improving the nearby district of La Mina. The scale of the regeneration of Diagonal Mar is expected to increase the area’s desirability for residents and attract investment from real estate developers. This, in turn, is likely to increase property values in the area.

Diagonal Mar is well connected, without the traffic congestion found elsewhere in Barcelona. Three Metro lines service the neighbourhood, along with regular and reliable buses. New transport infrastructure is going to make the district even more accessible. The new tramline, when completed, will connect Diagonal Mar to Passeig de Gràcia, in the city centre, in around 15 minutes via a pleasant journey that is bound to increase demand for property in the area.

Getting out of Barcelona is also easier from Diagonal Mar via the Ronda Literal ring road that borders the city. Drive direct to Barcelona’s international airport in around 20 minutes or use it as a fast route to the coastal towns of the Costa Brava.
