The developer of the super-prime golf / equestrian country club residential estate La Zagaleta – in Benehavís, just outside Marbella, on Andalusia’s Costa del Sol – has appointed Tom Doak to design the golf course of its new development Valderrama II near Sotogrande, with a name change to the Majarambuz Club under consideration.
Back in January 2020 we reported news that the developer of the high-end La Zalagaleta development in Benehavís had invested €200m in a new project called Valderrama II, in the Castellar de La Frontera municipality beside Sotogrande and Valderrama, which is part of Andalusia’s Cádiz Province (Costa de la Luz).
The latest news announced by La Zagaleta at Linkedin is the appointment of “renowned golf course architect Tom Doak to design its golf project for the development historically known as Valderrama II in the Sotogrande area.”
La Zagaleta also announced that it’s mulling a name change for the project from Valderrama II to Majarambuz, at least for the golf club. They are “considering the MAJARAMBUZ brand for its entire golf development,” La Zagaleta explained on Linkedin, and that it “is committed to this project being considered one of Continental Europe’s most exclusive golf clubs.”
“Membership will be strictly by invitation, and becoming a member will be notoriously exclusive. The club will have a limited membership of approximately 300, and there will likely be a multi-year waiting list.”
With plans to become “one of the most challenging courses in the world” guests will not be allowed to play unless they can demonstrate a low-mid handicap, and “access to the course will be limited to members, their guests, and users of the Hotel and Branded Residences of the Resort.”
This news suggests that La Zagaleta is going ahead with its Valderrama II / Majarambuz club in the Sotogrande vicinity, which will help consolidate the area as an upmarket destination for golfers and property investors in Spain.
