Spanish planning approvals fall by 61% in Q1

Planning approvals – which, in Spain, means the number of new construction plans certified by registered architects – fell by 61% from 202,512 to 75,016 in the first quarter of the year compared to Q1 2007.

The biggest fall was in Catalonia (77.4%), followed by Andalusia (71.1%), Cantabira (64%), Murcia (63%), Navarra (60%), The Canaries (59%), and The Balearics, Asturias & Mardid (57%).

Yet another sign of the drastic fall in construction activity in Spain in response to a frozen housing market.
