For sale direct from the owner!

This stunning contemporary villa was built in 1998 and has probably one of the most sought after positions on the whole of El Hierro (the smallest island in the Canaries.)

Nestled just above the beach at Las Playas and in a natural park where the construction of property is now prohibited, sits El Amar de la Mar (The Love of the Sea).

This amazing property has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom at upper ground level and a separate 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment at lower ground level.  The main house has the most wonderful living/kitchen/diner that has floor to ceiling glass windows, bringing the sea and mountains into the living area.

A wrap around, covered balcony not only keeps the heat of the sun out of the living area but is also ideal for stepping outside to enjoy the view.

There is a private 100M2 terrace that is partly covered for shade for alfresco dining and lounging.

The benefit that El Amar de la Mar has is the fact that is shares the same location as the exclusive Parador Hotel which is further along the bay (15 to 20mins walk).  This means that the road is in excellent condition and services such as electricity and water are rarely interrupted plus, the proximity to the hotel also means that there is a good restaurant not far away!

Access to the property is via a well maintained tarmac road all the way from the capital, Valverde (30mins drive).

The island is reached by small aeroplane or fast Sea Cat from Tenerife.  Several services per day are available.

El Hierro, with massive EU funding is working towards becoming the first island in the world to be energy self-sufficient using wind turbines and solar.  These also power the sea water desalination plant.  UNESCO have nominated El Hierro as a Bio Reserve.  A true haven for those who are eco-friendly!

El Hierro has little in common with its high density tourism neighbours of Tenerife and Lanzarote.  Everything about El Hierro embraces sustainability and protecting the environment.

If you are a lover of the sea, nature, peace and quiet, walking, off roading, scuba diving or perhaps simple relaxing, writing or maybe you are an artist or astronomer, El Amar de la Mar is the perfect permanent or holiday home for you.

You won’t be disappointed when you find out more…

El Amar de la Mar

From the capital Valverde, a road runs along the South-Eastern coast of El Hierro through small villages and ends at Las Playas (the bay south of the Roque de la Bonanza). There are a handful of houses at Las Playas, andEl Amar de la Mar is one of them.

Also at the most southern end of the bay is the Parador de El Hierro (part of the chain of Spanish luxury hotels, famous for their unique locations and architecture). This provides a quality restaurant only 15 to 20 mins walk from El Amar de la Mar.The hotelalso ensures that the services such as electricity and road are always providedto the property without interruption.

Las Playas is a natural reserve.

El Amar de la Mar is a sizable villa, built above the sea (200 metres from the beach) and with the back drop of the mountain. It consists of one-and-a-half floors. The top floor contains a large living room with fully fitted kitchen, three bedrooms/studios, and a bathroom. A large terrace surrounds the living room on two sides, granting a spectacular view of the sea and the bay.

Next to the house is a garden, especially created with indigenous plants that need little care.

The lower floor contains a water deposit for rain water, the garage and a guest room with bathroom.

El Amar de la Marwas built in 1998 and is now offered for sale by the grown-up children of the first owner. It was designed in close collaboration with an architect, in a style that is at once modern and in perfect harmony with its surroundings. The diagonal position to the sea (South-East) ensures there is always a secluded place to sit around the house.

The presence of the Parador in the bay ensures that the road to Valverde and utilities as electricity and water are always in working order, and repaired quickly in the (rare) cases of temporary failure. The house is in good condition; only the garden has been rather neglected and left to nature.

To potential buyers, El Amar de la Mar is offer on a try-before-you-buy basis (short to medium term holiday rental).

El Hierro: is the smallest and most south-western of the Canary Islands (278 km2). Total population 10,000 of which 5,000 live in the capital, Valverde. The landscape is diverse, from the rough coastal area in the South and

East to the pretty vineyards and plantations around the bay of El Golfo, dense forest and almond and fig trees on the high mountain that forms the heart of the island. The capricious rock formations along the coast (with cliffs as high as 1000 meters) make superb natural beaches and inlets where natural pools have been formed.

UNESCO has nominated El Hierro as a Bio Reserve. A substantial EU subsidy has launched an ambitious programme to make the island the first island in the world to become energy self-sufficient, with a combination of wind turbines and solar energy, which will also power water desalination facilities.

Under the waves in this special part of the canaries is as spectacular as on land and with the crystal clear water, scuba diving is a very popular activity.

El Hierro is part of the Spanish province of Tenerife and has a small airport located near the capital, Valverde (flights from Tenerife to El Hierro are from €30). There are three daily flights to Tenerife, and several weekly flights to La Palma and Gran Canaria. Several times a day, boats also sail to Tenerife with the choice of a fast Hydrofoil and even a night boat. Costs for transfers by boat differ – they charge from €17.

Groceries can be purchased 15 mins away from a small supermarket in Timijiraque or from the large supermarket in the capital, Valverde.

There is a medical center and hospital in Valverde.

The nearest school is in Isora, 15 mins drive away.

Climate:

The climate on the island is created through the interaction between the ocean currents from the Saharan Bank and the Trade Winds, which means that the weather is uniformly mild. Coastal temperatures vary between 19 degrees and 23 degrees centigrade and there are moderate winds during most of the year which mean even on a very sunny day, it rarely feels too hot.

The nights tend to be very clear and cloudless, allowing you to see one of the most brilliant skies in the world – a delight for both romantics and astronomers.

The sea temperature varies between 19 degrees centigrade in January and 23 degrees centigrade in September.
