The hamlet is reached by a country road that is only 6km (15 mins; drive) to the A7/E15 coastal motorway and the coastal town of Castell de Ferro and a little further South to the beach.
The nearest bar/restaurant is located 2km outside the hamlet on the road down to the coast.
The nearest town is located approx. 6km drive away on the coast – Castell de Ferro.
Between the Costa Tropical and mountain hamlet of Barranco Ferrer, the land is very fertile – this means, after a few kilometres of descending from the house, you pass fruit and vegetable farming areas. This is a geographical area well renowned for producing much of Spain’s tropical fruit to include; avocados, guavas, mangos, chirimoyas and passion fruits. Vegetables other fruits and herbs are also grown here year round. This is a farming community and it means, there are large areas covered with poly tunnels. Spain cannot be completely self-sufficient in fruit and vegetables without the poly tunnels that define a lot of the Costa Tropical (Granada’s coastline) and further East, the coastline of Almeria.
A large country property such as this, in the Granada Province, just inland from the Costa Tropical would be twice the price if it were located in the Malaga Province, 6km inland from the Costa del Sol. Therefore, whilst the poly tunnels are nowhere near Barranco Ferrer, having to drive through the farming area, means buyers can get a lot more house for their money!

Orchards and vegetable plot
The property owns three plots of land. The one the house sits on plus two additional plots of land either side. The current owners have dedicated some of the land to orchards with a variety of fruit trees and also to a vegetable plot with composting area. The rest of the land is not fenced and is left wild and grazed naturally by the goats and sheep brought to the area by different farmers at different time of the year. The tinkling of the bells on the sheep and goats is a wonderful sound.

♦ The residents of the hamlet of Barranco Ferrer got together and decided to set up a village fund/community fees situation for the maintenance of the village and management of the village water well. A meeting is held once per year and it is discussed how much should be paid in community fees and how much for water.
There are approximately 20 properties in the hamlet and it is a private community. Many of the properties are attached or semi-detached but this property is more substantial and stands alone and above the entrance to the hamlet. Originally, it is likely this hamlet was one large working Cortijo and was broken up at some stage to form the hamlet of Barranco Ferrer. The Cortijo owner would likely have lived in this property that is for sale now and his farm workers would have lived in the cottages. This is why the hamlet has its very own historic water supply via a very productive water well and why much of the land around Barranco Ferrer is still farmed today. Olive and almond trees surround the hamlet and there are also vineyards producing the famous muscatel grape well known in the area.
The coast and the road down to Castell de Ferro
Firstly, there is the private hamlet road, then the mountain road that leads down from Barranco Ferrer, across the dry river bed and on to the A7/E15 motorway which is 15 mins’ drive/6km. A little further and a few minutes’drive brings you to the coastal town of Castell de Ferro. This bustling coastal town has everything required for modern day living to include a 24hr medical centre, sporting facilities, bars, restaurants, shops and of course, the beach!
The access to the property and the hamlet of Barranco Ferrer is mainly tarmac but there is a small section where you drive along a dry river bed. Most of the time, for years on end, a normal car is all that is needed. Only during times of extreme flooding would a 4 x 4 vehicle be required to cross the river.
The mountain roads and the mountains themselves are dramatic and enjoyed by cyclists. The scenery is very dramatic. In the mountains you have untouched land or land planted with almond or olive trees and then as you descend into the valley, the growing of fruit and vegetables takes over (most covered by poly tunnels). From here, you reach the coast where the beach is backed by shops, bars, restaurants and more modern apartment blocks. The historic town of Castell de Ferro is backed by a hilltop Moorish fort, still standing today.
Motril is where you would go for major shopping and city culture. Motril is approx. 30km away.

♦ If you are looking for a spacious property with separate accommodation for visiting guests, then this property could be financially, a good buy for you.
