I went to the FITUR. There are ten pavillions with every country in the world (even Gibraltar!!) plus hotel groups, cruise companies and the rest of it. All chasing the dream. Andalucía had one ENTIRE pavillion to itself so somebody believes in spending money (uselessly).
As far as business goes – I think most of it is held elsewhere. Perhaps FITUR is a useful place to pick up business cards or – if you’re a politician – to make a speech before the jamón y vino español is wheeled out.
My home town, Mojácar (population 3,000 mojaqueros, 5,000 Brits) had its own full colour leaflet with the usual gushing text – in two languages. Castellano and Engrish. Unfortunately, we still have the kind of town hall that would rather risk people laughing at their efforts over actually asking a native English speaker to check the spelling.
