‘Spanish judges have kept their plans to take a day of strike action on February 18, and start a longer period of stoppages in the summer from June 26, despite meeting with the Minister for Justice, Fernández Bermejo, yesterday.

The Minister said he hoped to convince them in further meetings to call off the protests which come with already 2,500 cases outstanding. The judges say they are understaffed and overworked and are demanding the judiciary receive more resources and be modernised. A statement after the meeting said that they saw a ‘willingness’ from the Ministry, after 30% additional funding of 20 million € was offered, but they think it is not enough………’
