Can you not get the seller to go with you to traffico with all the docs etc..I thought that was the normal here!!
Re insurance, it is much more expensive than in the UK I think…as they basically are really surprised by anyone having any no claims bonus!! They usually require the number of the previous policy for the car and someone I know had to provide that for the insurance the old owners had which seems pretty stupid to me as if you buy a car off a bad driver…You can carry over no claims from the UK, you need your no claims cert from the UK and then to fill in a load of paperwork…we found arpem.com a good website for comparing insurance companies on price vs quality of service and it gave better quotes than carrefour and especially than lineadirecta!!
