On the 19th of June 2013 Intu-Eurofund Investments presented its plans to build the Puerto Mediterráneo Shopping Resort in the Paterna district of Valencia city.
The shopping centre will be the biggest in Europe at 300,000m2 and is scheduled to be open to the public in 2018 three years after construction begins in 2015. The developers estimate that it will attract 20 million visitors a year.
Jobs & Investment
The construction phase will involve 2,500 workers and when it opens the centre will see the creation of 4,000 jobs. The project will be funded with 520 million euros from the developers and 200 million euros from companies that will be involved in the resorts operation.
Location
According to the company behind the project, Intu-Eurofund, the shopping centre will be ideally located in Paterna as there is the possibility of adapting the locality to suit its needs. There is the possibility of building new roads in the district, as well as room for 12,000 parking spaces.
Facilities
The shopping resort would include an ice skating rink, urban surf park, climbing area and dry skiing/snowboarding facilities open throughout the year. There will also be numerous shopping streets and open spaces.
