The POTALA is an acronym which stands for Plan de Ordenación Territorial del Area del Levante Almeriense. It is the Junta de Andalucia’s project to design the future growth for the towns from Carboneras as far as Cuevas, Huercal Overa, Mojacar, Antas and so on.
Besides cutting down the number of houses allowable, the Junta plans to build an artificial city of 55 square kilometres (!) to back onto Garrucha and extend as far inland as Antas. This would include 50 hotels – despite the fact that our current hotels are not doing well and don’t need this kind of competition (although, fifty hotels inland?).
The mayoress of Mojácar gave a talk last night about the subject which I’ve written up at http://spanishshilling.blogspot.com
