Happy new Year to everybody for 2012.

I had 2 amazing weeks in Spain with no sign of clouds and quite high temperatures. I was prepared to go skiing in Sierra Nevada for at least 1 week out of two but the lack of snow and the Sun held me next to beaches and Alpujarra area.

I was wondering why did Brits concentrate next to Nerja. I think the region next to Almunecar/Salobrena is prettier. Was is just because the Germans were already in Almunecar/Salobrena region? Were prices in Nerja area cheaoper when the British started to buy there?
OK, Nerja has the caves and maybe Balcon d’Europa, but Salobrena has a nice castle and longer beaches and Almunecar has a lot of historical attraction and probably the best beaches in Malaga/Granada provinces.

I found all places to be extremely empty around Christmas/New Year period. Is it always like that? OK, I have not been to Marbella but
Almunecar/Salobrena, Nerja, Alpujarra(Capileira, Bubion), etc were empty even though the weather was glorious. The only place which was crowdier was Sol i Nieve ski resort.

Sounds like you had a lovely time.

I think the economic crisis is a big part of the reason why you found it so empty. Budgets are tight and people are travelling less, so any place that relies on UK/Spanish/Euro tourism is feeling the pinch. Not so true of places like Barcelona, Ibiza and Marbella, where tourism is more internationally diversified. They are doing much better.
