It will be intresting so see how many show up. I was at the Expo in Docklands a few weeks ago, there were two stalls from Spain one was selling in Costa de la luz, this was deserted. The staff were chatting to each other. I stood infront of the stall nobody came up to me ( maybe I should change my after shave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
The other wes Andalusian …………….., quite busy.
I am surprised that they are holding such an exhibtion in the current climate. If anybody goes please let us have a jouranlistic write up.
Suzanne, Best of luck with your efforts on Saturday , if as a result you prevent one more person from being sold yet another duff Spanish property, then your efforts would have been well worth while.
I note that a number of regional Spanish property shows have mysteriously disappeared from local news papers , after a bit of digging around I discovered the obvious truth that these events had all been canceled due to a complete lack of interest , the last show in Bristol was such a failure that the estate agents concerned have now dropped their involvement in the the project altogether , my contact told me that after the morning shoppers had gone , during the afternoon they had 4 people come into the exhibition 2 requiring directions, 1 for the loo , the 4th wanting information on the gay and lesbian night which is held in this venue alternate Saturdays , needless to say this event was not a success .
It could be that for the likes of you and other supporters the word , just might be finally getting through , buy at your your own risk , and is that risk worth it ?
Im actually taking the plunge and will be exhibiting this weekend so I will report back some honest facts on Monday. The last one we held a few weeks ago was very well attended, 26 couples on the Sunday but mostly thinking prices are the same as years ago. Maybe I should take a flask, portable TV and a comfy chair and watch the rugby !!
All I can say here is that there are more people who now know about the property problems in Spain than they did on Friday. There were more staff than punters during the time I was there, & the visit was certainly more productive than “watching paint dry”.
Goodness me Suzanne, why do you take everything out of context? Where is your sense of humour? I was not being sarcastic. I did watch paint dry. 😆
I can’t say I like decorating but I too had a productive week-end.. Now I just need to get a manicure! 😆
Suzanne, No surprise really that the expo proved to be such a flop , it does seem to indicate that people are now finally becoming aware of the pitfalls of buying in Spain, it is evident that these ghastly over developed and poorly designed projects , are simply not what buyers want anymore , and hopefully with this about turn , we will see less people having to come on forum’s such as this and explain their problems .
None the less I admire your complete and utter determination to personally confront the issue of educating and informing the buying public , right under the noses of one of the more aggressive outfits out there. Forums are chock full of people pontificating from the comfort and safety of their homes , telling people that they should do this or the other , all very informative and helpful I’m sure, and indeed many people have benefitted from this shared advice , but equally there is also a huge body of folk who are not computer aware , and lack the where with all to engage in Forum discussions , by directly approaching people in these circumstances you are more likely to help those who could become victims of potential mis selling , as I mentioned previously if you have prevented just one person from being mis sold , then your mission would have been worth while , in the event , it seems that you have indeed been successful in informing many more than that , the world is stuffed to the rafters with armchair pundits , it is quite another to combine both the internet and getting out there amongst it all, on the streets informing people face to face , I feel that your commitment in reaching out to as many people as possible puts you in exalted company , not only do you talk the talk , but you walk the walk as well , very very few people can do both , I truly salute your efforts to help as many folk as possible avoid the pitfalls that have blighted the lives of so many people, Well done
Many thanks for the welcome support & insight Gary.
As you say, many people are not aware of forums such as these. I spoke to a lady a few days ago who has serious property problems in Spain but had never looked at a forum; indeed she wasn’t aware of their existence. I was very surprised to hear this, but it was a timely reminder for me that all of us are different & use different methods to solve our problems. It seems clear that many who go to property exhibitions aren’t so aware of the potential problems. Alerting these people may not add many more signatures to Our Petition, but it will certainly be an informative warning for them, & hopefully make a difference.
Lots more to be done in this area, & look forward to continued support from any who are able to offer it at the time.
the world is stuffed to the rafters with armchair pundits ,
So true Gary. England only won the semi final of the Rugby World Cup on Saturday because of my husbands outstanding (armchair) coaching ability !! 😉 😆
Inez, are you still celebrating?
As promised here are the facts and figures from the exhibition we were at this weekend.
There was a total of 9 companies attending which the organisers said was a big drop from the 20 in previous years. There were 2 dedicated to Spain (us plus 1 other), 2 for Cyprus, 2 for Turkey, 1 for Bulgaria and the others were selling multi destinations. The total attendance was just over 200 for the 6 hours the exhibition was open so it did give a busy feel to the day.
The busiest stands seemed to be the multi agents. One in particualar was selling places around South America. Listening in you could hear people wanting to “get into” an emerging market but it doesnt make sense to me when you have to be shown a map of the world where this new emerging market is!
So my conclusion is that we seemed to collect as many leads as Turkey, Cyprus etc but people are still being convinced to part with their money on the next “hot investment” as they did with Bulgaria etc.
Suzanne, I congratulate you on your magnificent efforts in trying to alert others to the pitfalls of buying in Spain and possibly ,in the long term, elsewhere abroad.
Media articles ,and forums, about problems in Spain all too often fall on deaf ears because many people believe they are just tooooooo intelligent to be seduced into buying by sales patter.
And when they are…boy does the proverbial hit the fan .
IMHO if more people with problems spent less time sitting in front of a box and stood on one instead at these exhibitions then maybe the rogue promoters would clean up their acts.
Well done.
well done for going along to this. Sounds like the message is getting through at last. Our lawyer is telling us our case is likely to be heard about next April/May, but can’t be sure, as we are as always at the mercy of, as even our Spanish lawyer put it ” the very lazy Spanish juditial system”. He still sounds fairly confident, but as good as said that the result of our seemingly never ending case will depend on the mood of the judge on the day!! The attitude of UK buyers is changing for the good it seems, but the Spanish courts???
Melosine – spot on about the expos. It’s slightly frustrating not to be able to give more detailed info, but have learnt that Trading Standards are actively involved with some Exhibitions. Slowly, but definitely surely 🙂
Goodstich – not too long to wait now hopefully, when you consider how far you’ve come. With you all the way. I’m in court a bit before you, but combat training will start early ❗ All the best.
….and best of luck with your fight. I’m hoping for a clean knockout in the first round, but should i lose the first round due to a poor ref’, i’ll be back for the second with stronger gloves!!
